Lost Your Glutes During Your Cut?

If you've been working hard on your building your glutes only to find that they seem to have shrunk during your cut, you’re not alone. This can be a common and frustrating experience. However, understanding the reasons behind this can help you adjust your approach and do better next time. Here are two primary reasons why your glutes may have decreased in size during your cut:

1. Improper Management of Your Cut

Cutting, or reducing body fat, requires a careful balance to preserve muscle mass while losing fat. If you haven't managed your cut properly, it can lead to muscle loss, including in your glutes. Here are some key factors to consider:

  • Protein Intake

Protein is SO IMPORTANT for muscle preservation, especially during a caloric deficit, where your body is vulnerable to muscle loss. If your protein intake is insufficient, your body may break down muscle tissue for energy. Consume enough protein daily, roughly 1.8-2.2 grams per kg of body weight, to prevent muscle loss.

  • Training Volume and Intensity

Maintaining your training intensity and volume is essential during a cut. Reducing your workout intensity or volume too much can signal your body to reduce muscle mass, as it perceives less need for it. Keep training hard.

  • Caloric Deficit

While a caloric deficit is necessary for fat loss, an excessive deficit can be counterproductive. Drastic calorie drops can lead to significant muscle loss. Aim for a moderate deficit to ensure you’re losing fat while still maintaining muscle mass.

2. Lack of Initial Muscle Mass

Another reason your glutes may have shrunk is that they were primarily composed of fat rather than muscle. This is a common scenario for many people, especially if they haven’t spent enough time building muscle before starting their cut.

Building muscle takes time, consistency, and proper training. If your glutes were mostly fat, a reduction in body fat will naturally lead to smaller glutes. Focus on building a solid foundation of muscle for a long period of time.

If your glutes have shrunk during your cut, it’s likely due to improper management of your cutting phase or insufficient muscle mass to begin with.

Remember, building muscle is a journey, and adjusting your strategy based on your experiences is part of the process.
